Often referred to as the “Date Capital of the Nation”, Indio is a distribution point for the dates, grapefruit, grapes, melons, and other fruits and vegetables produced in the Coachella Valley. The City of Indio, known for its International Tamale Festival, the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival, Stagecoach Festival and Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival. It is the largest and fastest growing city in the Coachella Valley. Indio is currently redeveloping its downtown area to add more attractions and retail businesses.

Old Town Indio Streetfest, in downtown  Indio, boasts  food, arts & crafts, a farmers market and entertainment From October through May of each year. Red, White and Blue Polo and Balloon Festival at the Eldorado Polo Club sponsored by Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and the Palm Springs Kennel Club Dog Show also at the Empire Polo Club occur each January. In February each years the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival at the Riverside County Fairgrounds. Each April the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is found at the Empire Polo Club and the Coachella Valley Stagecoach Country Festival also at the Empire Polo Club takes place in May.  In November the Festival of Wheels, a car show and cruise through Downtown Indio, takes place. Also each November is the Cabazon Indian Indio Powwow at Fantasy Springs Casino. The year ends with the Indio International Tamale Festival turning downtown Indio into one of the top 10 "All-American Food Festivals." 

The Landmark Golf Club hosts the LG Skins Game each year in November is only one of several great country clubs and golf courses, others are the Plantation, Heritage Palms, Sun City Shadow Hills, Indian Springs and Indian Palms.

There are many hotels, and motels as well as FantasySprings Casino, Spotlight29o and Augustine Casino where you can play and have fun within a short driving distance from downtown Indio.
